Medical Transcription Training

Med Workshops has been providing Medical Transcription Training for almost 20 years.  I’ve been around long enough to have met and interviewed the founder of the AAMT (now called the AHDI) and the Mother of Medical Transcription, Vera Pyle, before they were well known.  Let me point out a couple of important things about transcription training.  

We have a graduate placement rate exceeding 95% since 1996.  Our licensed school is not a Diploma Mill like you see so often when you browse the internet.  Med Workshops provides the best training available and we are not driven by numbers.  We’ve used the HPI SUM Education Curriculum originally created by the founder of the AAMT (now called the AHDI).

We are also an official provider of Mentored Internship™.  We invest a significant amount of money on Mentored Internship because it is so important.  It is a big part of all our Professional Level Courses.  All students interned when I was trained.  I interned and so did my friends.  Internship with a mentor is part of your training when you attend Med Workshops.  Internship is the only way to gain experience in these fields before you leave school. 

Our extremely high employment rate and internship with a mentor are the reasons most people enroll at Med Workshops.  We are the only online school currently making internship with a mentor available to all students and we have done this since 1996!  

• The most important thing to know about any medical training is the value of internship!  A student could spend months on practice subjects and learn more through internship in a fraction of that time.
• You won't be asked to enroll immediately and we have no sales people working on commission; simply call admissions if you are interested.
• All of our class information is fully described in the appropriate Course Information.  You can be informed in private, not while speaking to a "salesperson".   
• We don't have open enrollment.  You finish your education with Mentored Internship.  Full internship does limit our enrollment ability.  We don't enroll students if we don’t have room in our Mentored Internship schedules.  
• Every student has their own personal instructor during training.  You won't have to rely on a "team of school employees" or a student forum to get your questions answered.  A close alliance with one good instructor is so important!
• Learning is more than absorbing facts, it's acquiring understanding.  Students understand when they can ask questions and get answers from the same professional instructor each time. 

General History of Online Medical Transcription Training

In 1995 the new online schools changed the methods of training.  You’ve seen these Diploma Mills advertising all over the internet.  It actually gets confusing.  At Med Workshops we maintain the time-honored standards.  Instead of abandoning thorough curriculum and internship training, we kept those as keystones for our student’s success. 

I was trained on the SUM Curriculum supplied by the founder of the AAMT.  I also interned and so did my friends.  In the old days, all students in the medical industry interned with a mentor(s).  Why?  Because this is a difficult profession to learn without hands-on experience.  Internship is expensive to provide but it is essential for your success!  You won't find it offered eleswhere.  

The Diploma Mill problem.......

As online schooling progressed in the 1990s, the nation's teams of "marketing scientists" experimented with many new get-trained-quick methods.  We have nothing against online training.  However, many big corporate schools took an assembly line approach; they took many essential features out of normal training.  How can a graduate of such training present a resume to a top company or hospital and be guaranteed they will be ready for a job?  This is why so many employers now require two years of experience and don't hire new graduates.

We heard all about not being hired from disgruntled graduates of Diploma Mills listed prominently on Google, Bing and Yahoo.  They complained they couldn't pass entrance tests, didn't have the necessary two years of experience, didn't know software platforms, they made too many errors, etc.  

Our solution for success

Online Diploma Mills offer diplomas in subjects too numerous to count.  We looked and said, "You can't be all things to all students and do it well".  Consequently, we specialize in medical career training.  Large numbers of unemployed graduates from Online Diploma Mills exist today.  It is sad and frustrating.  

We are the only school I know of providing the training-with-internship system for our Professional Level Medical Transcription Course.  Students should have experience in the field before graduating!  What better way to ensure you will be hired after graduating.
